Sedona With Kids
Start with Bell Rock Pathway. It's the one famous Sedona trail the Forest Service actually rates easy and family-friendly — wide, hard-surfaced, 185 feet of gain, restrooms at the lot, and you can turn back at any point.
Skip Cathedral Rock with young children. It's 1.1 miles, which sounds ideal, and it's rated strenuous with a hand-over-hand scramble and real exposure. The short distance is a trap.
The heat is the real constraint. Summer highs average 94–97°F with almost no shade on the red rock. With kids, that means dawn starts or nothing.
What works
Bell Rock Pathway — the standout. Easy and mostly wide, three lots so a full one isn't the end of the plan, restrooms at two of them, and dogs welcome on a leash. Kids can scramble on the lower slickrock at the base while adults keep an eye from the pathway.
Chapel of the Holy Cross — free, short, and genuinely impressive to children. Ten minutes and a view.
Oak Creek Vista — free, restrooms, big view, and the vendor market gives kids something to look at that isn't another rock.
Airport Mesa at sunset — a short walk from the car for the biggest view in Sedona. Hold hands near the edges; it's unfenced.

Crane Petroglyph — over a thousand petroglyphs on one wall, and site hosts who are usually great with children. Friday to Monday only.
What to skip, and the rules that bite
Cathedral Rock — strenuous, with a chute that requires hands and a head for exposure. Devil's Bridge — open again, but the unrailed arch with drops on both sides is not a young-children destination.
Heat, seriously. NOAA normals put June, July and August highs at 94–97°F, and Sedona's trails are unshaded slickrock that radiates heat back at you. Arizona health guidance suggests limiting strenuous activity above 90°F. With children the margin is smaller: be off the rock by 10am, carry more water than seems necessary, and treat a midday summer hike as off the table.
Parking rules don't bend for families. Cathedral Rock's lot is closed to private vehicles Thursday to Sunday — the free shuttle is the only way in, and it's actually easier with kids than fighting for a space.
Age limits on tours — neither the balloon operators nor the jeep operators publish minimum ages that we could find. Ask when booking rather than assuming.
